Bika Lab Systems (Pty) Ltd. develops and distributes open-source laboratory informatics software solutions for numerous industries. Like the majority of open-source businesses, Bika derives its income from support and other services, including a SaaS-hosted version of its flagship product Bika LIMS.[1][2]
The name "Bika" comes from the Zulu language, meaning "to report."[3]
History
Bika Lab Systems was incorporated in September 2005 but began operating as early as 2002, "identifying a need for affordable and easy to use information systems and instrument interfaces for small and medium size laboratories, customised to requirement."[4]
Technology and products
Bika LIMS is a free laboratory information management system (LIMS) solution released under a GNU general public license.
