TimeTrex is a free web-based open-source time management and payroll application developed by TimeTrex Software Inc. The company offers their commercial fee-based TimeTrex Business and TimeTrex Professional versions as well as the free open-source TimeTrex Standard edition.

Product history

TimeTrex started in 1999 as a similar custom application under a different name. Capitalizing on the success of that custom application, work began in 2003 to develop a new general-purpose payroll and time management application.^[2] The TimeTrex open-source project began on SourceForge on August 14, 2006^[3], with a Freecode version of the project beginning the next day.^[4] By May 2010 the application was being downloaded from SourceForge over 12,000 times a month.

In November 2016, the developers removed files from SourceForge and began making the user download the software from their website. However, no version number or release notes are being provided, so it's not clear what version is being downloaded.^[5] Last known version number is 9.1.3 on August 12, 2016.
