Columbia University (officially Columbia University in the City of New York) is a private Ivy League research university in Upper Manhattan, New York City. It was established in 1754 as King's College by royal charter of George II of Great Britain. Columbia is the oldest college in the state of New York and the fifth chartered institution of higher learning in the country, making it one of nine colonial colleges founded before the Declaration of Independence.[1] The university is organized into twenty schools, including Columbia College, the School of Engineering and Applied Science, and the School of General Studies. With an acceptance rate of six percent, Columbia University is tied for the second most selective academic institution in the world after Stanford.[2]

- "The fourth year of medical school (fall and spring terms) will be spent as an MA student in our program. Students enroll in a minimum of 24 points (12 points in each term) over the course of two semesters. Six points of medical school coursework are counted towards the 30 point requirement for the GSAS MA degree. Students complete the master’s essay as part of their scholarly project once they return to medical school in their 5th year. The MD-MA degree takes a total of 5 years to complete."
