OpenEMR is free open-source electronic health record and medical practice management software that features ONC Complete Ambulatory EHR certification and a robust development community.[2]

Product history

OpenEMR has its roots in two older pieces of software: MedicalPractice Professional and MedicalPractice Gateway, developed by Synitech Incorporated in 2001.[1][3] On June 29, 2002, the software was renamed to OpenEMR with version 1.3.0, and that same year development responsibility shifted to the Pennington Firm in San Diego.[1] On March 5, 2005, version 2.7.0 was released, and with it came a shift of the source code to SourceForge.[4][1]
