Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, commonly known as FAMU or Florida A&M, is a public, historically black university in Tallahassee, Florida, United States. It is one of the largest historically black universities in the United States by enrollment and the only public historically black university (HBCU) in Florida.[1] It is a member institution of the State University System of Florida, as well as one of the state's land grant universities, and is accredited to award baccalaureate, master's and doctoral degrees. The 2017 edition of the U.S. News & World Report college rankings placed the university first among public HBCUs and seventh among all HBCUs.[2]
