Brandeis University is a private research university in Waltham, Massachusetts, United States. Founded in 1948 as a non-sectarian, coeducational institution sponsored by the Jewish community, Brandeis was established on the site of the former Middlesex University.[2] The university is named after Louis Brandeis, the first Jewish Justice of the U.S Supreme Court. The institution offers more than 43 majors and 46 minors, and two thirds of the undergraduate classes have 20 students or fewer.
Brandeis was tied for 34th among national universities in the United States in the U.S. News & World Report 2016 rankings.[3] Brandeis is classified as a research university with very high research activity (RU/VH) by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.[4]
