PmWiki is a free open-source wiki application. The "Pm" portion of the name refers to "Patrick Michaud," a researcher at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi who began the PmWiki project.[2][3]
Product history
Researcher and programmer Patrick R. Michaud began work on PmWiki in 2001, as he needed "to build and maintain web sites for the various projects and groups [he] was involved in,"[1] with a release of version 0.1 in September. When the implementation didn't quite work out as planned, he created the idea of "WikiGroups" "as a way for people (non-admins) to create their own spaces for wiki content without having to seek out or become an administrator to do it."[1] WikiGroups were first incorporated into the software in January 2002.[2] Use of the software spread around the Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi campus that spring.[2]
On June 13, 2004, version 1.0.0 was released, with the primary purpose of needing "to better reflect the demonstrated stability of the code, and its suitability for use as development of PmWiki 2.0."[4] After extensive beta testing, version 2.0 was released on September 1, 2005.[5]
January 18, 2009 saw version 2.2.0 released, featuring numerous changes to page variables, page links, passwords, "https" recognition, and more.[6]
