ADempiere or ADempiere ERP is a free open-source enterprise resource planning (ERP) application.

Product history

ADempiere began as Compiere, another open-source ERP solution. However, a disagreement arose between Compiere's developer community and its corporate sponsor concerning the greater emphasis on the open source nature of the project rather than the community nature of the project.[2] This disagreement ultimately led to the creation of ADempiere as a fork of Compiere.[3] The ADempiere project was officially started at SourceForge on September 9, 2006.[4]

On June 24, 2010, project admin Redhuan "red1" D. Oon stepped down from his role with the project[5], eventually moving on (in May 2011) to the forked GlobalQSS 361/iDempiere project with developer Carlos Ruiz.[6][7][8] Despite this, the ADempiere project was listed a few days later as one of the top two most active projects on SourceForge.[9]

On September 1, 2011, version 3.7.0 was released[10]. News concerning an updated release didn't arrive until 2013[11], however, and it took two more years before version 3.8.0 was released on March 3, 2015.[12] The update added new CRM and warehouse management functionality and integrated the human resources, manufacturing, and warehouse management modules, among other changes.

On March 10, 2016, GlobalQSS general manager and iDepmiere lead Carlos Ruiz — who still controlled the adempiere.com domain as a "trustee" — and former ADempiere project admin Redhuan Oon strengthened its control of the .com domain and pointed their own IP address to it rather than honoring ADempiere Deutschland's request to update the IP address.[13][14] (The IP address switch was necessary as ADempiere Deutschland stated its hosting company was moving its data center.[13]) Oon and Ruiz cited several reasons for not updating the IP address, including their forceful removal as admins from the project as well as ADempiere Deutschland's abandonment of election proceedings and alleged censorship on other forums.[14][13] ADempiere Deutschland responded by calling the "lack of cooperation on the part of an individual company ... a disappointing blow to the community."[13] In mid-April 2016, ADempiere Deutschland posted an additional, more formal response to their forums[15]:

The Board finds that the recent activity by the owners and users of the adempiere.com site provide “Evidence of Registration and Use in Bad Faith” as defined by the ICANN Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy in that it is intended to create confusion between the projects and direct adempiere participants to the idempiere project. In addition, the recent attacks on the adempiere.net domain to insert meta data to create links back to the idempiere domain show a malicious intent.

Oon and Ruiz went on to update the adempiere.com domain with a new message and added a restored version of the ADempiere wiki "preserved for reference only."[16]
