University of California, Santa Cruz (also known as UC Santa Cruz or UCSC), is a public research university and one of 10 campuses in the University of California system, located in Santa Cruz, California, United States. The residential college system, which consists of ten small colleges, is intended to combine the student support of a small college with the resources of a major university. UCSC is classified as a research university with very high research activity by the Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education.[1] The university enrolled more than 17,800 students, and it ranked 79 among national universities and 26 in "Best Value Schools" according to U.S. News & World Report's 2016 rankings.[2]
