iPath is a free open-source "collaborative platform for exchange of medical knowledge, distance consultations, group discussions and distance teaching in medicine."[3]
Product history
In 2000 the University of Basel's Department of Pathology required an upgrade of its telemicroscopy system to a more open, web-based solution that would allow easier collaboration on pathology projects. From this iPath was born, released to the general public in May 2001 as open-source via SourceForge.[1][2] In early 2002, starting with release 0.3.1, the project was then moved from SourceForge to Savannah.[4]
However, by early 2005 weaknesses in the programming (vague development model; poor separation of data and visualization layers; inability to support large user numbers) became apparent, necessitating a complete redevelopment of iPath (as version 2.0).[1]
In March 2009, the project slowly began moving back to SourceForge.[5] The last verifiable release of iPath is version 2.1.9 on January 28, 2010. The current development status of this project is extremely vague. Live examples of iPath on the Web show many with version 2.1.13, but no such file exists on the SourceForge page. The SourceForge repository does show activity on the project during 2012, however.[6]
These are the known release dates of GNU Health. Note some releases are missing due to incomplete data by the developer:
