sciNote is an open-source electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) "that helps you manage your laboratory work and stores all your experimental data in one place."[3]
Product history
sciNote was conceived as an idea in 2014 by a group of life science researchers and software developers at BioSistemika LLC. The team went through focus groups, market analysis, and product design before creating a beta of the software in October 2015.[4] The following month, the group turned to crowd-funding site Kickstarter to acquire additional funding. Regarding why the funds were needed, the team stated: "The biggest challenge is to make it available for everyone on a secure server. To achieve this we need to create a robust user management system and establish a cloud environment."[4] After meeting their funding goal, the team went on to solve those challenges, eventually releasing the source code to the public on February 12, 2016.[1][2] BioSistemika also began to offer hosting and installation/service plans for the software.[5] The developer also announced it would be demonstrating the software at the Experimental Biology 2016 conference in San Diego at the beginning of April 2016.[6]
A new entity sciNote, LLC was created in Wisconsin in May 2016[7], suggesting the sciNote efforts may be handled separately from BioSistemika in the near future. (This page will be updated when more public information becomes available.)
