Omnilab Srl develops and distributes laboratory informatics software and hardware solutions. Omnilab also offers other services such as custom development, training, and implementation help.[1]

History

Since 1998 Omnilab web sitesupplies LabOnLine middleware to provide universal connectivity from any instrument to any LIS (Laboratory Information System), whether it is part of the pre-analytical, analytical or post-analytical phase. Middleware is a highly specialized software residing between the LIS (Laboratory Information System) and devices such as diagnostic instruments, front-end automation systems, work-cells or track automation systems to provide additional features to improve automation and to ensure reliable integration. Omnilab is dedicated to identifing and developing features that can improve the value of IT in any clinical Laboratory or blood transfusion laboratory. IVD (In-Vitro Diagnostic) vendors as well as LIS vendors are among the principal entities that can benefit from Omnilab’s experience..[2]

Technology and products: LabOnline and TubO

LabOnline is a middleware platform designed to "manage and improve the capabilities of existing automation systems (pre-analytics, analytics and post-analytics) in any section of the laboratory."[1] The software is designed to work between one or more laboratory information systems (LIS) and analytical instruments, providing additional functionality and workflow management not available in either the LIS or the instrument. Key features for LabOnline include unlimited instrument and software system connections, multi-lab support, web-based results browsing and validation, a flexible rules engine, and support for multiple file formats.[1] (Consult the website for all features.)

Tubo is a hardware and software package designed as a workspace "to organize and retrieve tubes through automatic position detection."[1] Users can place a rack of tubes of any size on the workspace, and the system is designed to scan, recognize, and place the tubes into the workflow. The system includes a relational database for archiving data from the machine.[1] Through Omnilab solutions the user takes full control of the sample life-cycle: . control laboratory workflow . produce reliable test results . control laboratory TAT (Turn-Around-Time) . manage TLA (Total Laboratory Automation) . support laboratory quality accreditation

LabOnLine Main Features

1 Web interface for results browsing and validation 2 Unlimited number of workstations and instrument connections 3 Unlimited number of LIS and/or Hospital Information System (HIS) connections 4 Supports any communication protocol 5 Supports historical results archives of unlimited size 6 Connection of different laboratories to enable “virtual labs” 7 Simple user interface to easily browse data without having to skip to different windows or procedures 8 Auto-verification: powerful “rules engine” to define ANY rule (from simple to very complex) 9 Full control of auto-verification process (according to regulatory guidelines, e.g. CAP) 10 Rules can be written to conditionally download/upload information to/from analyzers, the automation system and the LIS. 11 “One-click” validation process: immediate access to results, by clicking on real-time counters related to different conditions (e.g. “To be validated”) 12 Receive and store results in ANY format (numeric, codified, free text, graphic) 13 Rerun/Dilution/Reflex can be rule driven or entered manually. 14 Unlimited storage of reruns (this provides for accurate statistics) 15 Advanced Dashboard: real-time sample status monitoring (dashboard console with real-time alerts). This feature streamlines exception management. 16 Complete sample tracking with view of the latest sample position. 17 Filter results by different criteria (e.g. work-list, measurement sequence, rack/position, by requester, by production laboratory, by analyzer flags, etc.) Save filter criteria for re-use. 18 Incoming sample accessioning (manual or instrument driven). 19 Rules-based automated sample sorting/routing capability with process line definition, and pre-analytical support of manual sample routing. 20 Real-time Moving Average-Of-Normals (with the ability to automatically hold results), with graphical comparisons among different analyzers 21 Unlimited historical results archive (with easy direct access to previous results; graphical display of previous value trends) 22 Real time delta-check (applicable to qualitative results as well) 23 Comments management (related to patient, visit, request, sample, assays) 24 QC material and calibrators handling 25 Built-in QC Management with graphs (such as Levey-Jennings, Youden-Plot), real time multi-rules (i.e. Westgard) and result export. TubO Main Features

TubO is an H/W and S/W (hardware and software) device aimed to support clinical laboratories to organize and easily retrieve sample tubes. Unique capabilities combined with the sophisticated s/w and the flexible design enables to fulfill a wide range of business cases. Technology is based on the capability to automatically “recognize” operations performed on the device work area as: 1. Placing of a rack; 2. Removing of a rack; 3. Placing of a tube; 4. Removing of a tube

TubO Workflow: 1. Identify a rack by scanning its barcode (built-in or external device attached); 2. Place the rack on Tubo Workspace where required; 3. Identify a tube by scanning its barcode, then place it in any rack or in the rack suggested by Tubo; 4. If the rack is recognized (i.e. coming from a specific analyzer) there is no need to scan each tube: tube mapping is already done; 5. Search for a specific tube (or set of tubes) by entering a tube ID (or other criteria) or just choose any selection filter; 6. Tubes are highlighted on both touchscreen and workspace coordinates (LEDs); 7. Move tubes and/or racks to the required next location.

TubO flexible design combined with sophisticated S/W enables to be used to provide advantages and solutions in many different typical laboratory business cases. Different from any other solution on the market it capabilities are not limited by mechanical constraints. Here some of the Business cases: 1. Tubes Check-In; 2. Tubes Sorting (multiple steps workflow; priorities management); 3. Tube(s) easy retrieval (on any rack including on analyzer/automation system ones); 4. Easily select tubes to be completed from different analyzers; 5. Instant guideline to select tube(s) on any rack for rerun/reflex or next applicable step; 6. Tubes storage (move a rack away from Tubo and specify the storage unit); 7. Aliquotting (highlight primary tube and position(s) for the aliquotes); 8. Phletobomist side (building the rack mapping at the blood collection); 9. Automate sections in the lab that uses tubes not suitable for automation system
