Accelrys, Inc. develops and distributes laboratory informatics software solutions.
History
In April 2010, Accelrys announced it had agreed to merge with Symyx Technologies Inc.[1], completing the merger later in July of the same year.[2] Accelrys incorporated Symyx ELN into its holdings and eventually turned to Thermo Scientific to help market Symyx Notebook.[3] The name of Symyx ELN was later changed to "Accelrys ELN."[4]
In May 2011, Accelrys announced it had acquired Swedish developer Contur Software.[5] Accelrys cited the previous acquisition of Symyx and its ELN as filling a "high-end notebook" market, while the purchase of Contur and its ELN allowing Accelrys to offer an option for smaller organizations.[6] On July 19, 2011, Contur Software, allowed to work as a separate entity, announced it had changed the name of its ConturELN to iLabber "to give our customers a better and clearer overview of our offering."[7] This may lead to some confusion, because as of February 2013, Accelrys still refers to the product as "Contur ELN" on its website. (Though the company seems to recognize this, in some of its documentation (PDF) referring to the software by both names.)
In January 2012, VelQuest Corporation — and with it its SmartLab ELN — was bought by and absorbed into Accelrys, with SmartLab becoming "Accelrys Lab Execution System", a laboratory execution system.[8][9][10]
