open enventory is a free open-source web application that acts as an electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) with literature and inventory functionality.
Product history
open enventory was originally created as part of developer Felix Rudolphi's PhD thesis Programmierung eines Elektronischen Laborjournals (ELN) und seine Anwendung bei der Entwicklung neuer decarboxylierender Kreuzkupplungsreaktionen. Development of the software began in 2006 during a time "when asynchronous communication and single-page web applications came up."[2] Rudolphi said of its initial development that in order "[t]o deliver a user experience comparable to desktop applications, I developed a custom basis for CRUD applications where the data is loaded asynchronously through an invisible iframe."[2]
A SourceForge project for enventory project began on July 10, 2009[3], though it's not clear what the first stable release of the program was and when it was released. Rudolphi completed and presented his dissertation on the software in December 2010.[4] In March 2011, Rudolphi founded Sciformation Consulting GmbH[5] as a means to offer an improved commercial version of open enventory called Sciformation ELN.[2][6]
