Tracks is a web-based project management application that's based on a Ruby on Rails framework. The design of Tracks is significantly influenced by a "getting things done" methodology, introduced by author David Allen, and the GTD Todo application. That methodology was introduced to the application in the form of three main components: next actions, contexts, and projects.[1]

Product history

The first release of Tracks was version 1.0, released on January 3, 2005.[2] That release was based on earlier work in late 2004 of an application called GTD Todo.[3][4][5]

Features

Main features of Tracks include:

  • built-in Mongrel web server
  • action and project management
  • tagging and starring actions
  • color coding of due dates
  • multi-user support
  • comprehensive statistics tools
  • text, iCal and RSS feed support
  • export data in YAML, CSV or XML format

Hardware/software requirements

Requirements for this software to run properly include:

1. SQLite3, MySQL or PostgreSQL

2. Ruby 1.8.7, RubyGems 1.3.7 or 1.5.0, Rake (see below)

More specifics on installation of Ruby, RubyGems, etc. can be found here.

Videos, screenshots, and other media

Screenshots of Tracks can be found on the project site. The site also has a Quicktime movie introducing users to the application.
