Caisis is an open source, web-based clinical cancer patient data management system that seamlessly integrates clinical research functionality.
Product history
According to the development team, work began on Caisis in January 2002 to replace a five-year old Microsoft Access database utilized in the Department of Urology at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.[3][1][2] The project actually started out internally as "Valhalla," but as it grew in scope, the course of the project changed. In what is assumed to be the first public open-source release, the software's name changed to "Caisis" and incremented to version 2.0.[1][2] Development has continued since, with increased scope and collaboration from around the world. By 2008, the Caisis Group estimated over 400 users at more than 20 sites in six countries were utilizing Caisis, treating over 200,000 patients in the process.[1]
The latest release is version 6.0, released on February 2, 2012.[4] Among the new features introduced in 6.0 were an improved user dashboard, administrative interface, and analytics interface, as well as the addition of the ability to store user preferences.[4]
