A data generator is an individual or organization directly responsible for generating data.[1] Modern laboratories use extensive instrumentation when running tests. Many of these instruments possess interfaces and/or dedicated computer systems that can be used to transfer results to a LIMS. The most obvious method is for the laboratory personnel to capture the readings from these instruments on a worksheet and key them into the system when fully automated methods are unavailable.[2]
