openCDMS was a free open-source clinical data management system designed "to enable clinical researchers to manage the full life cycle of their clinical research project, from design through to archiving, without any specialist knowledge of databases or IT systems."[2]
Product history
Development for openCDMS began in May 2005 at the University of Manchester but originally as the program PsyGrid, a U.K. Department of Health-funded e-science project dedicated to aiding in the treatment of psychotic disorders with underdeveloped evidence base.[3] On September 1, 2008, PsyGrid was renamed to openCDMS and its scope expanded due to "the growth of the PsyGrid system and its continuing adoption across many health domains."[4] With this move, the software was freely opened up to the public under the GNU Lesser General Public License.[4] On October 8, 2008, the first open-source version of openCDMS was released to the public. The software continued to be developed by the University of Manchester, which also hosts openCDMS systems for medical research organizations in the U.K.
In September 2013, the University of Manchester declared that it would be shutting down its openCDMS system by the end of 2014, and presumably with it development of the software.[2] Version 1.10.2 was the last public release, made on December 4, 2014.
NOTE: In late 2018 or early 2019, a new project appeared on the opencdms.org domain, called OpenCDMS, "the free and open source climate data management system." This software presumably has nothing to do with the prior openCDMS clinical software.
