Christoph Mueller and Werner Froidevaux founded the openCRX project in May 2003 while working for Swiss company CRIXP Corporation.[2] The openCRX project was introduced to SourceForge on November 18, 2003[3], with a 1.0.0 open-source release eventually arriving on August 1 the following year.[1] On September 25, 2005, the developers claimed the application had been downloaded over 100,000 times from SourceForge, with that number going up to 150,000 by November 2006.[1] Version 2.0.0 of the software was released on February 25, 2008, with new features like Tomcat support, access to LDAP and IMAP, and a new address book.[1]
