eFront is web-based open-source learning management software. The software is available in a fee-based commercial Educational and Enterprise version as well as a free Community edition.
Product history
eFront was created by Greek company Epignosis in 2002 as part of a funded EU project. By 2004 SCORM support was being built into the software. After several years of development, the software was released under the open source model to help "improve the quality of the product and make it known to the learning community"[2], followed by a move to the United States[3]. A SourceForge project was started for the software on October 6, 2007[4], followed a few days later by a Freecode project.[5] The first public open-source release arrived as version 3.0.1 on October 9, 2007.[1] The release schedule has been steady since, with the latest Community edition arriving as version 3.6.12 on December 24, 2012.

In April 2010 eFront won a bronze award for "Best Advance in Learning Management Technology for Small- and Medium-Sized Businesses" category from Brandon Hall Research.[6]
