The community portal is a place to track the initiatives and development process of LIMSwiki. If you're new to the wiki and need help, please consult the "Get started" section of the home page.

Community information center

LIMSwiki is a collaborative wiki dedicated to the scientific community, featuring organized, documented, and up-to-date content regarding all aspects of laboratory informatics, bioinformatics, and health informatics. LIMSwiki also strives to maintain relevant knowledge about laboratory equipment as well as commercial and open-source software likely to be used in a laboratory setting. This also includes the vendors of such equipment and software. The development and curation of LIMSwiki has closely followed this definition since its inception in early 2011. Yet given limited contributors and a rapidly changing technology atmosphere, it's been difficult to keep up with and produce content relevant to the industry. Despite these challenges, LIMSwiki remains an ambitious project dedicated to collating useful information about the growing industry and its players. What follows is the list of recently completed, unfinished, scheduled, and planned initiatives to broaden the relevant scope of the wiki. The content within this portal will expand as more contributions are made and more help is requested for new and current initiatives. Latest news April 30, 2014: 180px I wanted to highlight some of the projects we've worked on over the past few years. I feel like as the wiki grows, some of the tools buried within it tend to get lost. First, I'd like to again mention the LIMSwiki informatics resource portal. This project was dedicated to collating as many useful online scientific and health informatics-related materials and research tools as possible. It includes links to books, magazines, journals, blogs, organizations, special-interest groups, government entities, academic programs, conferences, trade shows, research tools, job boards, and a whole lot more related to laboratory, health, and other types of informatics. I can't stress enough how extensive we've tried to make this collection of resources. We have other resources too that shouldn't go unnoticed: The Laboratory, Scientific, and Health Informatics Buyer's Guide: a guide to buying informatics systems, with a list of vendors who have public pricing LIMSWiki:LIMSforum and LIMS/LI forum posts: a collection of popular laboratory informatics discussions dating back to 2010 The LIMS and laboratory informatics questionnaire: a request for information (RFI) document to help users in buying an informatics system Limspec: a related but different tool for building a personalized collection of cataloging requirements and vendor questions Shawn Douglas (talk) 17:43, 30 April 2014 (EDT) November 1, 2013: We have a couple of brief updates to give you regarding the wiki. First, we've expanded the help section of the wiki by updating a few existing help pages and adding a few new ones. Additionally, we've added a new collection of MediaWiki training guides to 1. help users new to MediaWiki more rapidly make meaningful edits and 2. to further encourage new users to make wiki contributions. We hope you find the training guides and exercises useful. Second, we've upgraded to MediaWiki 1.21.2, added new extensions, and will be moving the content to what will hopefully be a more rapid server.
