LabTrove was a free open-source electronic laboratory notebook (ELN) that "enables researchers to share their experimental plans, thoughts, observations and achievements with the wider online community in a secure, semantically rich and extensible manner."[2]

LabTrove was part of the Smart Research Framework (SRF)[3], a research collective which aimed to integrate social networking's benefits into a rigorous and reliable laboratory informatics framework.[4] It could be installed locally, or it's also available as a hosted service via U.K. business Liberata.[5][6]

Product history

An open-source SourceForge project was started on July 28, 2010[7], and release candidates were made public via SourceForge and the website LabTrove.org.[8] The first stable release of LabTrove is believed to be version 2.2-r301, released on January 17, 2012.[1] Development had continued on the software as part of the SRF.[3]

By 2023, the LabTrove website had fallen out of use, and the software has not been formally updated since 2019. The project is presumed to be abandoned.
