The frequency of publishing about IM has approached linear growth, from a few articles in the period 1966–1970 to 100 at the WoS and 600 at Scopus in the period 2011–2015. From this selection of publications, this analysis looked at 21 of the most cited articles on WoS and 21 of the most cited articles on Scopus, published in 31 different journals, oriented to [[informatics]] and computer science; economics, business, and management; medicine and psychology; art and the humanities; and ergonomics. The diversity of interest in IM in various areas of science, technology, and practice was confirmed. The content of the selected articles was analyzed in its area of interest, in relation to IM, and whether the definition of IM was mentioned. One of the goals was to confirm the hypothesis that IM is included in many scientific disciplines, that the concept of IM is used loosely, and it is mostly mentioned as part of data or information processing. Another goal concerned the application of information and communication technologies within IM. The hypothesis was confirmed. In analyzed articles was used the concept of IM in the broader context of activities, with focus on various aspects of IM. The most frequent area of IM application was business support. 			==Explanation of the term "information management"==
			The definition of IM is mentioned in the paper by (Whittaker, Bellotti & Gwizdka, 2006) and elaborates on the information processing and management functions that should deliver the right information to the right people at the right time. The same paper also refers to personal information management (PIM), concerning the human activities associated with information processing, including various tasks and roles as an organization or company employee, as a community of interest, or as a family member.

			The article by (Franklin, Halevy & Maier, 2005) specifies IM as data source processing, or as information processing in the article by (Whittaker, Bellotti & Gwizdka, 2006). Some articles explain the functions of IM as the information and communication technologies (ICTs) for business support (Mithas, Ramasubbu & Sambamurthy, 2011), for administration support (Lansdale, 1988), for HR support (Afifi & Weiner, 2004), or for medical practice support (Moen & Brennan, 2005).

			In the article by (Moen & Brennan, 2005), the unique term “health information management in the household (HIMH)” is described as a conglomeration of five elements (see Fig. 10):

			* individuals that are in the center of the HIMH with their knowledge, perceptions, and experiences;
			* organizations that form the social context, rights, and responsibilities;
			* tools and technologies that assist with HIMH;
			* environments through which all other elements are connected; and
			* tasks that constitute the set of activities of the individual's work in the organization.

			This definition of HIMH is more complex than the previous IM definitions mentioned in this paper and could act as the basis for further investigation of IM in general.

			Here are other attempts at definitions of IM or their improvements in analyzed articles:

			# Data sources or information processing procedures of the organization (Franklin, Halevy & Maier, 2005), (Whittaker, Bellotti & Gwizdka, 2006).
			# Handling activities with information sources and using IT for competitive advantage in an organization (Mithas, Ramasubbu & Sambamurthy, 2011).
			# Analysis and distribution of information within a company (Anand, Manz & Glick, 1998).
			# Collection and management of information and its distribution to an audience (Heimbinger & McLeod, 1985).
			# PIM, which specifies IM in the area of human resources (Jones, 2007), (Whittaker, Bellotti & Gwizdka, 2006), (Barreau, 1995), (Lansdale, 1988).
			# HIMH, which is a conglomeration of aspects involving individuals, tasks, organizations, environment, tools, and technologies (Moen & Brennan, 2005).
			# Motivated IM, as a three-phase process in interpersonal encounters, emphasizing the role of efficacy and bringing attention to the interactive nature of IM (Afifi & Weiner, 2004).
			# Lean thinking to IM that includes the need to characterize the nature of waste and establish the five principles of value, value streams, flow, pull, and continuous improvement in the context of IM (Hicks, 2007).

			The goal of IM, paying regard to the above definitions, is to acquire, analyze, and process data sources, with the goal of preparing and distributing information within an organization or company to support its effective work and competitive advantage.

			==Conclusion==
			One of the goals of this paper was to confirm the hypothesis that the concept of IM is used in analyzed articles loosely and mostly includes partial nods to data or information processing and the application of ICT. The hypothesis was confirmed; the concept of IM was used in the broader context of activities (Tab. 2), with focus on various aspects of IM (Tab. 3). The most frequent areas of application were "ICT for business support" (10 articles) and “ICT for medical practice” (7 articles). The diversity of interest about IM in various areas of science, technology, and practice is confirmed in the list of journals (Table 1).

			In the article is discussed the term IM on the basis of selected publications indexed on WoS and Scopus. The criterion for their selection was putting the phrase "information management" in the title of the publication. The result of the query was analyzed and was further narrows down to the 21 most cited articles on WoS and 21 most cited articles on Scopus. From the selected subset of publications only 32 articles (not 42) were further analyzed, because 10 articles were indexed on both servers. The number of citations of the articles confirms the quality of publication, and therefore the resulting analysis can be considered relevant to an understanding of the topic of IM and meets the objectives of the article, despite their relatively small number (32).

			Most interesting was how the concept of IM was understood by the authors of the selected publications, and how improvements to the definition of IM could be made. The diversity and interrelations of IM to other fields was also discovered and presented via an analysis of the articles, including observations of their publication frequency (Fig. 1), number of citations (Fig. 2), list of journals published in (Tab. 1), overview of article topics (Tab. 2), and their relationship to IM (Tab. 3).

			The author's vision of the future of IM corresponds with the findings as a concept of information activities in the company/organization, in conjunction with a special department to support the acquisition, processing, reporting, and distribution of information within an organization.

			The discipline of IM is oriented to information as a source of the company or organization. Functions of information processing include creating or acquiring information, storing it in a relevant structure, and updating and processing the information optimally for presenting, retrieving, and allowing use of it by different users.

			An interesting element of IM is that the value of information is based on context. Information in itself has no value, but the value depends on its purpose, e.g. how much is a decision maker willing to pay for it prior to making important decisions.

			This article is a response to a discussion held after the presentation of the paper<ref name="BuřitaInfo17">{{cite book \|chapter=Information Management in Articles on WoS \|title=Conference Proceedings of ICMT'17 \|publisher=Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, Inc \|pages=335–339 \|year=2017 \|isbn=9781538619889 \|doi=10.1109/MILTECHS.2017.7988780}}</ref> at the International Conference on Military Technologies, which was originally oriented to the analysis of IM in papers indexed solely on Web of Science (WoS). The paper was updated to include papers indexed on Scopus and added the correlation between both sources.
