SparkLix Bio IT Corp. developed and hosted the free ELN solution Sparklix.

History

SparkLix was an Israeli start-up co-founded by Roi Paz[1] and Gabriel Axel[2][3], transplanted to the U.S. A beta of the software (as SparkLab or SparkLab 360) was created as early as 2007[1][4]. SparkLab 360 was marketed as "one integrated system combining the best features of electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) and laboratory information management systems (LIMS)."[5][6]

At some point in early 2011, SparkLix changed its offerings, publicizing their free SparkLix ELN for commercial, academic, and personal use as well as a fee-based SparkLix Business Edition with more advanced features.[7] However, by roughly November 2012, the company removed information about its products and the company from its website while still allowing free access to SparkLix ELN.[8]

Some time in the summer of 2014, the service was discontinued. The website stated "Sparklix is now Docollab. Your Sparklix account, colleagues and content are available in Docollab." It's not clear if SparkLix Bio IT Corp. was sold, changed names, etc., though the State of New York still shows the license active.[9]

SparkLix won a LabAutomation2009 award from the Association for Laboratory Automation (ALA).[10]
