Figure 3. Illustration of the data synchronization procedure using a crawler. Data acquisition (possibly including computer simulations or data produced during data analysis) leads to a variety of files in different formats on the file system. Crawler plugins (CFoods) are designed in a way that they understand the local structures on the file system. The file tree is traversed, possibly opening files and extracting (meta) data in order to transform them into a semantic data model that is then synchronized with the RDMS. The figure was previously published by Schlemmer. |
