Bio IT Corp. and Docollab
Hello! As discussed in the introduction message when you joined, we've had a lack of knowledge about SparkLix. Public information about it and Docollab has been sparse at best. I see the Docollab website has been updated a bit with more information, which is helpful.

However, if you didn't already notice, all commercial software is loaded under vendor records. The SparkLix Bio IT Corp. record is a good example of this: we create a vendor record and then place the vendor's products in that record. That said, the Docollab record that was created is invalid and will be redone. However, again, I see a lack of transparency in the company surrounding Docollab. Even looking at the Terms of Service doesn't reveal what the legal name of the responsible company is. I assume your doing business as (DBA) is "Docollab," but I need a legal name of the company. I can't really do anything without it. Normally companies are open about this, or, if nothing else, I can take an address and DBA and find the legal business name registered with the state. However, there is also no address or phone number listed for the company, making it even more sketchy.

I've locked the Docollab record for now. The information there will need to be moved to a vendor record. Please provide the legal name of the company, including company type, as that is our standard here on the wiki. We can't do anything until we have that information. Thanks! Hello Shawn. I will add company information after sorting a few things out. A more important issue is that the Sparklix page implies that Docollab is associated with Sparklix, where in fact there is no relation between them and people who encountered this page got confused. I tried to remove the mention of Docollab from the Sparklix page but now I see it's back there. Can you please remove it and also update the main page at "Key cloud- or SaaS-based laboratory informatics software" item 20 to not show Docollab as a product of Sparklix?
Thanks.
--Gabiaxel (talk) 16:55, 22 October 2014 (EDT)

: I admit to being a bit confused. The website specifically stated in July "Sparklix is now Docollab. Your SparkLix account, colleagues and content are available in Docollab." You used to be a co-founder and developer for SparkLix. Roi Paz also created an account here from Docollab, and he too was a co-founder of SparkLix. You state "the Sparklix page implies that Docollab is associated with Sparklix, where in fact there is no relation between them." On the contrary, all evidence points to there being a strong relation between the two. You two co-founded SparkLix and now have co-founded Docollab. I have to document that in both the SparkLix and Docollab record. I will remove Docollab as a product of SparkLix, however, as requested. The rest of the information will remain on the SparkLix page as there is a direct relation between the two companies. When you can provide more company information, I'll update the records as necessary to show Docollab as a product of the company. Thanks! Shawn Douglas (talk) 14:39, 24 October 2014 (EDT)

:: Hi Shawn. Thanks for removing that information from the main page. To further clarify - Docollab is not and never was a product of Sparklix BioIT, and was created after we stopped working at Sparklix. Sparklix BioIT no longer provides any services, so I suggest deleting its page. The only "relation" was that the old Sparklix website redirected to Docollab, and that's it - they are two separate and unrelated services. Since Docollab is a relatively young service, this page appears high in Google search results, and users get confused by the mentioning of Docollab in Sparklix'es page, and this actually causes us damage, so again I request this information be removed or the entire Sparklix page be deleted. A page about a service that doesn't exist anymore doesn't have any value for people who want to learn about ELNs anyway, does it? Thanks, --Gabiaxel (talk) 14:59, 24 October 2014 (EDT)

::: The SparkLix page won't be deleted. Since this wiki's creation in 2011, our policy has been to document not only current history but also past history. We do this by labeling the record via categories as inactive. I did so with the SparkLix record, and it now appears in the inactive list with all our other inactive ELN vendors. I don't think you have to worry about confusion, etc. So you all started a new company? It's our job to document these changes in the history. Sorry that you don't agree. Shawn Douglas (talk) 15:15, 24 October 2014 (EDT)

:::: I wasn't aware that you document inactive ELNs. Categorizing Sparklix as inactive is fine by me. There is no company behind Docollab, it's a private project for the moment, and as I said it was created outside of Sparklix BioIT, so there is no change to document - it's a new and separate service, not a transition from anything that existed before. The reason I am asking this is because people who find this page ask us about that, and we don't want people who used Sparklix in the past or read any reviews of it to think Docollab is the same. Thanks. --Gabiaxel (talk) 15:41, 24 October 2014 (EDT)

SparkLix Bio IT Corp. developed and hosted the free ELN solution Sparklix.

History
SparkLix was an Israeli start-up transplanted to the U.S. A beta of the software (as SparkLab or SparkLab 360) was created as early as 2007. SparkLab 360 was marketed as "one integrated system combining the best features of electronic lab notebooks (ELNs) and laboratory information management systems (LIMS)."

At some point in early 2011, SparkLix changed its offerings, publicizing their free SparkLix ELN for commercial, academic, and personal use as well as a fee-based SparkLix Business Edition with more advanced features. However, by roughly November 2012, the company removed information about its products and the company from its website while still allowing free access to SparkLix ELN.
SparkLix Bio IT Corp. develops and hosts the free ELN solution Docollab.

Some time in the summer of 2014, the service has been discontinued. It's not clear if SparkLix Bio IT Corp. was sold, changed names, etc., though the State of New York still shows the license active.

August 2014, it's not clear what the features of the web-based software are.

Awards and recognition
